Accelerating universe from gravitational leakage into extra dimensions: confrontation with SNeIa

چکیده

There is mounting observational evidence that the expansion of our universe is undergoing an acceleration. A dark energy component has usually been invoked as the most feasible mechanism for the acceleration. However, it is desirable to explore alternative possibilities motivated by particle physics before adopting such an untested entity. In this work, we focus our attention on an acceleration mechanism: one arising from gravitational leakage into extra dimensions. We confront this scenario with high-z type Ia supernovae compiled by Tonry et al. (2003) and recent measurements of the X-ray gas mass fractions in clusters of galaxies published by Allen et al. (2002,2003). A combination of the two databases gives at a 99% confidence level that Ωm = 0.29 +0.04 −0.02, Ωrc = 0.21 +0.08 −0.08, and Ωk = −0.36 +0.31 −0.35, indicating a closed universe. We then constrain the model using the test of the turnaround redshift, zq=0, at which the universe switches from deceleration to acceleration. We show that, in order to explain that acceleration happened earlier than zq=0 = 0.6 within the framework of gravitational leakage into extra dimensions, a low matter density, Ωm < 0.27, or a closed universe is necessary. Constraints on the DGP Model from Recent Supernova Observations and Baryon Acoustic Oscillations

Although there is mounting observational evidence that the expansion of our universe is undergoing a late-time acceleration, the mechanism for this acceleration is yet unknown. In the so-called Dvali-Gabadadze-Porrati (DGP) model this phenomena is attributed to gravitational leakage into extra dimensions. In this work, we mainly focus our attention to the constraints on the model from the gold ...

Supernovae, CMB, and Gravitational Leakage into Extra Dimensions

We discuss observational constraints coming from CMB and type Ia supernovae, for the model of accelerated universe produced by gravitational leakage into extra dimensions. Our fits indicate that the model is currently in agreement with the data. We also give the equations governing the evolution of cosmological perturbations. Future observations will be able to severely constrain the model.

Accelerated Universe from Gravity Leaking to Extra Dimensions

We discuss the idea that the accelerated Universe could be the result of the gravitational leakage into extra dimensions on Hubble distances rather than the consequence of non-zero cosmological constant. e-mail [email protected]

Gravitational Leakage into Extra Dimensions: Probing Dark Energy Using Local Gravity

The braneworld model of Dvali–Gabadadze–Porrati (DGP) is a theory where gravity is modified at large distances by the arrested leakage of gravitons off our four-dimensional universe. Cosmology in this model has been shown to support both “conventional” and exotic explanations of the dark energy responsible for today’s cosmic acceleration. We present new results for the gravitational field of a ...

In this paper we propose a scenario with small compact extra dimensions for generating the accelerating expansion of the the present universe, as suggested by the recent distance measurements of type Ia supernovae. In this scenario, the accelerating expansion of a matter-dominated universe is generated along with the evolution of the space in extra dimensions. We use the Einstein equations to a...
